The Best Kind of Love by Kerri Carpenter Blog Tour Excerpt & $50 Giveaway

So I'm really excited to participate in The Best Kind of Love Blog tour from InkSlinger PR.  Today I get to share with you a really awesome excerpt from the book The Best Kind of Love by Kerri Carpenter and a cool giveaway.

About the Book

After twelve years away, organized consultant, Penelope Walker, doesn’t expect to return to Blue Lake, Virginia. But when her parents unexpectedly die, she returns to her hometown and finds out that general contractor and former love of her life, Ethan Callahan, is back too. Their relationship transcended the typical high school romance and his mere presence is enough to have all those feelings of passion return full force. Only she can’t forget that Ethan didn’t show up for their secret elopement and left her brokenhearted.

It doesn’t take long for Ethan to realize he wants Penelope back, but he knows she won’t let go of the past that easily. When she finds out what her parents asked him to do all those years ago, she’ll never let him back into her life. Even though he did all of it for her.

Penelope’s determined to unravel the mystery of their shared pasts, while Ethan wants nothing more than to move on to their future. If these two former lovers can learn to forgive and forget, will they be able to remember that they had the best kind of love?

The Excerpt

What is he doing here? Even though her stomach flip-flopped at the mere sight of him, and her brain went into overdrive trying to figure out what the hell was going on, Penelope calmly got out of her car and strode across the impeccably manicured lawn. She would not show any outward indication that the man still had any kind of hold over her. Instead, she would simply continue on with her life just as she had all those years ago when he’d left her.

Everyone knew Penelope had a head for details, so it was only natural that she noticed his broad shoulders, adorable shaggy hair, and the smile lines in his tanned face. He had intriguing hazel eyes, she remembered. How could she not, when she used to stare into them for hours at a time back in high school?

Stop it! The only time her heart should beat this fast was when she stood at the head of a boardroom table, delivering bad quarterly projections to her boss. Ethan Callahan wasn’t her boss, so Penelope continued strutting toward him, confidence in check. When she reached him, she put her hands on her hips, stuck out her chin, and leveled a cool gaze in his direction.

But before she could utter a single word, their eyes locked. Concern oozed out of his. “I’m so sorry about your parents, Dimples.”

“What the hell are you doing here?”

At her outburst, the mischievous twinkle she remembered so well returned to his eyes. They roamed up and down, drinking in every inch of her. “Long time. I missed you.”

Was he kidding? That’s how he greets her after nothing for twelve long years? After she got fired? After her parents unexpectedly died? After her whole life changed without any warning?

Whether it was the use of her nickname, his idiot smile, or the sheer magnitude of what had transpired that day, Penelope’s well-guarded control snapped.

“You sonofabitch!”

She pushed him hard, putting all her strength behind the movement.

Caught off guard, Ethan fell backward into her mother’s rose bushes below. She hoped he landed on a really big thorn.

About The Author

Kerri Carpenter began writing in her grandmother’s kitchen at the age of seven in a small town outside of Pittsburgh, PA. A life-long fan of reading, she got lost in the worlds of The Baby-sitters Club and Sweet Valley High. She also assumed that everyone had characters and plots forming in their heads at all times.

Once she turned to romance novels, she couldn’t get enough of books with happy endings, so she started writing her own. Now, Kerri writes contemporary romances, usually set in small towns. She enjoys reading, cooking, watching movies, taking Zumba classes, rooting for Pittsburgh sports teams, and anything sparkly. Kerri lives in Northern Virginia with her adorable (and mischievous) poodle mix, Harry.
